The FIUL, International Ukulele Festival of Lerrain was the first ukulele festival I’ve attended which didn’t take place in Paris, which, for a countryside dweller like myself, was just perfect. Here are some highlights of the weekend.

Meylie Mellow and Rel-Bar, the organisers of the festival have done a great job making ukulele players attending the festival very welcome. Upon arrival, all ukulele players who had registered on their site received a bag containing items that would help them look and sound good on stage (a set of strings from Aquila, a thick and neatly laid-out songbook, a toothbrush, toothpaste, mascara,  and other things, including some deodorant to make sure our playing didn’t stink). It’s worth mentioning that the bag was a world tour in itself with products from France, Italy, New-Zealand, the US and Germany.

We’ll then move from Germany to Canada for a bunch of ukulele songs in German before landing in Spain with a performance by Spanish ukulele blog friend Jordi.

If all this doesn’t make you suffer from jet lag, you’ll be able to reach the end of this post with an escape to Australia before coming back to mainland Europe with a song by TooSoft from France.

Country: Brazil /Language: Brazilian Portuguese

Marcelo from the  blog Ukulele Brazil recently mentioned two Brazilian artists using the ukulele : Ana Ribeiro and Eduardo Ansay.

I have discovered the French band Stoned Popes a couple of months ago and I have really enjoyed the mood brightening effect their songs had. The band features a ukulele and their songs have a catchy rhythm and feature many instruments, borrowing from different musical styles.

I couldn’t resist asking them a few questions to find out more about their music.

U&L: When and how was your band Stoned Popes formed ? Can you tell us a little about the different members of the band, where everybody is from and what instruments everyone is playing ?

Stoned Popes: The band in its current form was formed two years ago in Paris by 6 crazy frenchies:
