Beatles Ukulele covers : 1968 (The White Album)

29 2010

Time for more Beatles ukulele covers ! Today we’ll be listening to songs from the album simply titled The Beatles, more commonly known as The White Album. The White Album came out on the 22nd of November 1968 and is actually one of my favourite Beatles albums.

Here are 16 ukulele covers of songs from the White Album, from players from 8 different countries.

The Beatles – The White Album – Disc One

Four girls in the wind, (TinyBand) from the US play a lively and fun version of Back in the USSR with lovely vocal harmonies, kazoo, bongos, tambourine and of course ukulele.

Fabio Koryu Calabró from Italy performs an Italian version of Dear Prudence, Cara Prudenza, with Bosko and Honey at the First Italian Ukulele Festival in Vicenza.

Ralf from Germany covers Glass Onion with great attention to details found in the original song.

A nice cover of Ob-La-Di,Ob-La-Da by Gab,Rel-Bar and Max from France on 2 ukes and a guitar.

The classic While My Guitar Gently Weeps by Jake Shimabukuro from Hawaii

An excellent fingerstyle version of Blackbird played by Seeso who puts a lot of emotion into his singing and playing.

Ladyharvatine from the US plays a cover of Piggies

A Canadian ukulele and guitar cover of Rocky Rackoon by superficials.

If some of the covers are quite close to the original song, this one by Leo (LeoHareMusic) from the US is definitely a free adaptation that could get you dancing. Here is Don’t Pass Me By revisited.

Tom Guy (Bluegrassukes)  from the US plays an instrumental arrangement of I will on a beautiful tigerwood tenor uke.

Another US version of I Will with two ukuleles, performed by Ben Hassenger and Pat Malloy in East Lansing, Michigan. Thanks to Ben for sending me the link to this video!

A shame the sound is not very loud on this next video, a cover of Julia by zillaged from the UK in fingerpicking style.

The Beatles – The White Album – Disc Two

Dennis (Bigislesmile) from Hawaii certainly knows what rhythm is all about as you’ll see in this excellent cover of Birthday. More dancing !

Nigel from Canada plays Cry Baby Cry.

Finally, Bruno from Brazil covers Honey Pie. You’ll have to watch this one here as embedding is disabled.

Here is another version of Honey Pie by Whitney (US). Nice singing.
