Today in several countries of the world, it is Sinterklaas (St Nicholas). In the Netherlands, Zwarte Piet (Black Peter), Sinterklaas’ helper, has helped Sinterklaas deliver presents to children who have been good while he has filled his huge bag with nasty kids. The legend says that Zwarte Piet takes children who have been bad to Spain. I think I wouldn’t mind being very bad, I would love to travel to Spain!
With these early Christmas celebrations taking place, it is also time for Ukulele & Languages to become somewhat Christmassy with a new Christmas look.
Elsewhere in the world, in Sweden, in the city of Lindesberg, live events are taking place to mark each day of the advent calendar. And Ukuleles have been featured for door nr. 3 of the calendar. If you are in a hurry, start watching from 1:52 onwards.
A good way for Santa Claus to check whether children have been good is to sing them Är du vaken Lars (Are you awake Lars ?), a Swedish song written by Gullan Bornemark in which a mother asks her son Lars if he is awake and whether he has washed his hands and brushed his teeth. Here is a ukulele adaptation of the song by Mab and Hrlarson who have appropriately renamed the song Är du vaken Mab ?
